News - Destiny 2: Annual Pass

Some pretty big news today,

Bungie just announced it's latest new DLC in the Destiny 2 franchise starting the season 5, Season of the Forge, and it's first Annual Pass feature - Black Armory. For those unfamiliar with Destiny 2, the Annual Pass is a series of new activities, weapons and gear only available to those who purchase this pass that will comprise three new DLC's throwout 2018/2019. And if for some this is great news... form me is a bit of a possible red flag! Here's why...

All activities for Forsaken and Annual Pass owners. They seem to be making your money's worth at least!

On one hand I'm happy they'll keep Forsaken players having new content to get back to throwout the entire year and, on the other hand, I feel it's only fair that people who've bought the Annual Pass have something to show for it, being that weapons, gear, cosmetics, whatever...

Having said that, I do feel this is a clear split in the community as not all activities will be accessible to all players. If activities we're available to all and only rewards closed to those who haven't access to the Black Armory faction (just like any faction mechanic with quests or bounties providing new gear) all Forsaken owners could still join in and enjoy the game together in it's entirety.

However, this way, it will literally "force" Forsaken owners to buy the Annual Pass in order for them to keep playing with their teammates (or having new, possibly better gear, behind a pay wall), making this feel more like an "Expansion Pass" than a "Annual Pass" and, for those who's memory is short, this is exactly what Bungie promised/did with the Osiris and Warmind expansions!

The "split" you see on the board is the same split you'll have in the community. This is my concern for the game!

Hopefully they've learned from that (huge) blunder and will not repeat the same mistake again. I know a lot of people are happy and willing to "forgive and forget" on Bungie but I feel this is a mistake both for them and for us (the players) just to let it go by so soon!

Maybe only after six months to one year of Annual Pass can we say for sure if it's worth to trust Bungie again or not. In the instance they do make another blunder... May God have mercy on their souls, cause the community certainly won't!

Just to finish, we have to also keep in mind that Anthem (Bioware) and the "one-year-free-content" The Division 2 (Ubisoft/Massive) are just a few months away from hitting the shelfs. If Bungie knows this - and I hope they do - they'll try to make the best product on the market as not to lose their share of gamers but, as is, I feel it's still a bit too soon to put all our trust in Bungie again!

Hoping to be wrong! That is all. Thanks for reading!
