Beta Review - Overwatch

Look at all these great characters! Wouldn't it be great if you could go on a mission agains a greater evil with these guys?!
Here we go!

This was one of my most awaited games of 2016. Before playing this game I already knew the characters, some storylines and even that this was a next-gen MOBA (Multiple Online Battle Arena) for PS4 and PC. And after all the hype, all the wait, all the enthusiasm, was it worth the wait? Well... not really no!

This game has a lot, and I mean a lot of faults.

The Beta layout menu is slightly better but still no Story, Campaign, missions, tournament, loadouts or powerups!
When you start the game you can choose any character you want. Each has it's on abilities and powers and - new to this game - you can switch character mid match. Well this is new but not necessarily better. The game itself is a successive match after match of six versus six players in, what can be versus team death match, secure a cargo to a designated location, or win a location over another team. If you get killed you can always come back with another character to deal better. But if you're just starting... probably you'll just die a lot!

My problem with this game is that it's just this! No campaign, no tournament, no team boss missions, no story or even cinematics of any kind. It's just a repetitive match after match game. You get no map, no loadout menu, no power-ups during game, and all you get is unlock new items of each character every time you rank up. Mind you, to rank up you have to make a number of matches and only after you get rewarded. And what are the rewards? All i can say is that until I got to level 10 all I won (besides Sprays and new catch phrases for each character that amount to nothing in game) one new color for Thorbjörn and 50$ (the game currency).

Before each match (and after you die) you can choose a new hero to play. Why? Why not?!
Playing this didn't make me feel empowered, rewarded or that I was leveling up in anyway and, after a while, my comparisons with other Beta's started to play in. In Battleborn Beta you have campaign co-op missions and you unlock not only characters but new colors also (not to mention the Helix and loadout you can have during game). And even playing Doom Beta and losing miserably, I could still achieve some new gear or loadouts to use during game (since we all play the same character basically).

My feeling after playing Overwatch is that this is Blizzard's take on MOBA. After League of Legends or  Counter-Strike, they are trying to get into the new world of match making games to make them more visible (and profitable). But is this what most people wanted with Overwatch?! I certainly didn't! Not when you have games that offer this much more in game experiences than just match, after match, after match, after match, after match...

A disappointing two out of five!
