DVD Review - After Earth

Love this image...but that's about the only thing the movie as going for it!
Hello,

Time for another film review weekend today and I start with a movie that I was expecting a bit more of... After Earth.

I must say I didn't have that much expectations to start with but this movie is just wrong at so many levels that I was just amazed at how bad it was.

To start off, the plot is your typical father-son distance drama but that's not even clear why since it's clear that the son loves and respects his father. The rescue-training plot makes no sense cause if this is in the future, you'd expect that people would have better medical-survival gear to deal with these type of situations in the first place. And, last but not least, the pacing is terrible and the son keeps having moments of pure teenage-rage for no apparent reason.

The only good thing about the movie is the production value and (of course) the special effects, but that's not nearly enough to save this movie.

Will Smith could of done a lot better, considering other titles like "I Am Legend" or "The Pursuit of Happiness", and as for the sci-fi... there are better ones!

A very down (to Earth) 2 out of 5.
