DVD Review - The Lone Ranger

Johnny Deep is the side kick to the unknown Armie Hammer in this much darker Disney western movie.

Hayhoo Silver... Away!!!

Sound familiar?! Well that's cause this was one of most famous cartoon characters back in the day. It got somewhat forgotten but then Disney decided it was a good idea to bring him back - with a little help from Johnny "Captain Jack Sparrow" Depp - as a non-stop action western . But did it work? My opinion... kinda!

First of all, if you're looking for a Pirates of the Caribbean kind of movie, with funny bits and lots of action choreography on it... forget it! This is a much more dark and gore kind of movie with a lot more nitty gritty action sequences. The special effects are ok but nothing that will make you look twice and the story also has a lot more drama to it.

The movie has a mixed-pacing, gags that cover the usual to the absurd and a hero that (in my opinion) just wasn't cut for the part of being side-kick to Johnny Deep. And what about Depp you ask?... Depp is the man as always!

But the question remains, is this a bad movie? Well... Not really!

The problem with this move is that after the Pirates of the Caribbean Trilogy, we were all expecting a bit more of that on this one, but instead, director Gore Verbinski decided to go all out action with an unknown hero actor for the main part. Big mistake!

That, and really bad trailer marketing, kinda hinted that this was a sequel of the adventure fantasy genre of Disney - which is clearly not! My final take, between this, a "bad" Lone Ranger movie or no movie at all... this one is quite nice. Check it out!

A very average 3 out of 5.
