DVD Review - OldBoy

The original designer of this poster saw no credit for his work... shame Spike shame!
Old Boy, for those of you who don't know, is a cult classic piece of asian film. It was so mesmerizingly awesome and with such a "out of the box" story that it took the US studios ten years to make a remake.

Now, for those of you who know the movie, rest assure it's almost all the same... Almost! There are things of course that had to be changed but the main plot, action, characters and mood are all there.

And that's also why it's so bad!

Yes I said it, this is a bad movie. I'm sure Spike Lee had the best of intentions when he agreed to making this remake but the truth is, not only didn't he bring anything new... he also made like an exact copy of the old one. And if you're doing a remake well at least change something!

Could of been a bit of the story. Let's not put the father but the mother perhaps? Let's change the set a bit make it more ciberpunk. Let's give the audience something new so they can have a new experience seeing this movie. Let's not!

Everything is the same... even the ending doesn't change all that much but yes it is different from the original. And by different I really mean worse!

If you don't know the original by all means take an inquisitive look at if, if you do... stay clear! you won't be impressed!

A copycat 2 out of 5 for Spike!
