Cinema Review - Godzilla: King of the Monsters

The banner says it all. Monsters, military and mayhem... what more do you need?!

Hello everyone,

If you're familiar with big monster disaster movies, I'm pretty sure you've heard about Godzilla by now. He's like the ultimate monster movie madness back from Japan to rule all other monster disaster movies.

Having stated this, I think we all already assume what we are going to see when a movie has the title of "Godzilla" on it. Big monsters, major destruction, military and tech, a bit of superstition and/or mythology... kinda makes you wonder what more can you expect from (yet another) Godzilla movie.

Well, in this case, more monsters. Like... a lot more!

The movie is kinda thorn between a family feud complex story, a terrorist organization trying to wipe half of mankind, and a king monster that must rule over all others. Not great, not bad, just enough context for massive military destruction and mayhem.

And that's exactly what a Godzilla: King of the Monsters delivers!

Not only that, the movie links to others like Kong Island (2017) and the last Godzilla (2014) film, kinda trying to take a step forward on ti's own franchise of monsters movie, and that's fine. However, they need to put a cast together that people can follow in these movies, maybe the leader or spokesman from Monarch, maybe a kid or scientist, something that makes us go "Hmmm, where have I seen this character in a disaster before?" and them it's all really nicely tided in with a bow in the after credits scene.

As it is, it's a great popcorn movie - probably the best I've seen this year - but also a very forgettable one since afterwards, you can't really recall if the best scenes are from this or any other Godzilla movie.

An enjoyable three out of five.
