Movie Review - Indie Game: The Movie
Indie Game: The Movie gives you an insight to the wonderful word of indie gaming in all its glory and... stresses! |
Hya folks!
Just your friendly blogger here with another movie review and today it's an indie movie about games or a movie about indie games or an indie game about indie movies... whatever!
This movie follows the "making of", mistrials and mishaps of a bunch of developers of indie games (that is low budget games) and their respective view on their projects and the game industry itself. These guys have the responsibility of releasing the game on time and with quality while having all the internet and gaming industry following their every move wich that can be a little... stressful at times - to say the least!
I love the whole premise and insight of this movie!
The artist/creators, their lives, their inside stories on how they got to making games, on how they deal with the stress and what are their expectations upon it's release. Among these stories, I really loved the onde about FEZ creator Phil Fish. This guy took more than four years to make one game and in the process had a sick dad, a broken relationship and a business partner that walk out on the project. To make it worse he (at some point) had the entire internet community asking "is this game ever coming out?".
Now, for me as an artist/creator myself, I really feel a connection to these stories and these problems, not only because I've worked at the industry, but also because sometimes when you start a project being it games, movies or comics you don't really have a clear ideia of how much time its gonna take, how many problems will occur and finally if the audience is actually gonna like it. It's all a big gamble between the vision you have on what you're creating and the vision that the people are gonna have on what you did. And sometimes... it just doesn't work!
On this movie however everything ends on a much more positive note and we get a felling that sometimes its worth sufferig for your art!
A great four out of five! (",)
