DVD Review - The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies [Extended Edition]

Extended Tolkien time... what more do u need for a great Sunday afternoon?!
First and fore most... Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!!!

Yeah, I know you are probably reading this mid January but still, I didn't want to pass the opportunity to wish you Happy Holidays. And because it's been Holidays I've seen a bunch of new movies starting the new year so let's all get cracking at a toon of reviews shall we?!

First up, let's take a magical walk to Middle Earth and see what was what with the last extended version of the Hobbit trilogy, The Battle of Five Armies!

Of the three, I considered the theater version of this movie to be the worst. The Dwarfs don't to much, we get all mixed up between Bard and Legolas as tuff guys and of course the overall murdering of the book is just awful by all counts. Considering this was Peter Jackson (father of the Tolkien movies) I was expecting a lot more respect from the original material.

Having said that, I must admit this version is much more in tune with the overall feeling of the literary universe. The passing was corrected and we now get a lot more of the Dwarfs, their beliefs, their war culture and the importance of the Mountain for them!

Also, if you check the Appendices you will see a lot of good ideas that were never used - God knows why?! This is a great buy and a great movie for any Tolkien fan and I just wished they would get a lot more Tolkien into the three movies than the overall hollywood "let's get and elf and a dwarf romance in there".

Hope in future times they'll learn that if a book is a success for more than half a century, there is no need to change ANYTHING when it comes to making a movie out of it!

A five out of five (minus the artistic liberties that we can forgive cause it's Peter after all!)
