DVD Review - Monkey King: Hero is back

They've already nailed the movie posters... Now all it's missing is the actual movies!

According to the Chinese zodiac 2016 marks the year of the Monkey! Not only that, it's a year of Fire also. So what better time to check out a movie about a fire monkey?!

"Monkey King - Hero is back" is a Chinese animation movie trying really hard to emulate some of Pixar's or Dreamwork's excellent work! I can't say they totally made it (cause they didn't) but it's still a great try on their part.

I find that they have similar technology and talent but lack some of the passion and knowledge when it comes to making a good, appealing animation movie. When it comes to action cinema, no one can say that China still has a lot to learn from Hollywood, but with animation it's still different.

Having said that, this is a good effort on their part that I feel it could very well be a "Kung Fu Panda" of sorts if only they'd try and push it a bit further.

All in all if you are animation movie fan I advice you to take a look. If not... Well you have better options!

A worthy effort two out of five!
