Movie Review - Escobar
A great big waste of Benicio del Toro talent! |
And because one just wasn't enough... here's another example of "how to screw a movie with a very bad leading actor"!
This movie is so bad I'm just gonna say that the only good thing it has on him is a great performance by Benicio del Toro as the drug lord Escobar.
If this movie had a more serious or mature actor and story, this would be a oscar winning movie. Escobar is a great character that most young audiences will not even know or care who he was to put him in the middle of a very teen romance movie.
The pace is all wrong, the actors too young for the dark vibe of the film and the whole mafia underworld goes almost unnoticed. I can't really recommend this unless you are a Benicio fan and want to see him act (and sing) in Spanish.
If you're a teen you might enjoy the romance (and Josh Hutcherson) but if you're an adult and know of the hell it was the rule of Escobar in Colombia, you'll just waste your time.
A one out of five!
