DVD Review - Godzilla

The monster from the rising sun is back! Bigger, longer, darker but... better?
It's the return of the blockbuster season,

After the 1998 remake of the same movie, here's the new monster 2014 3D HD version of this creature titan of a movie... Godzilla is back!

The movie works very well as a popcorn film. You have your wide screen shots, big action, destruction sequences, big CG, so on that regard the movie does a good job. However there are somethings that don't allow him to reach that full out loud mayhem that you'd expect on a movie like this. Here we go... SPOILER ALERT!

First of all, Bryan Cranston dies in the first half of the movie. That's right! Just like on Executive Decision (1996) where Steven Seagal get's "cut out" of the movie, that I had not seen the "let's kill the main character in the first half" move in all these years. This is not only bad for the story, it's also terrible for the movie itself.

Also, what I didn't like as much was the new Godzilla. They all say that it was designed as an homage to the original movies but - for me - it was a big step back from 98 version. Really most times I feel each animator decided to give him his on take on it. Lizard, plus bear, plus human, plus something, it just didn't work!

Last but not least... this was supposed to be a movie about titanic creatures clashing agains one another but the truth is most times you seem them on the evening news screen and only about ten minutes of actual combat agains one another. Now, having a small fight is ok but after transformers and considering this is a two hour movie, it's just to little!

All in all the movie is good if you have a big screen and something sweet to eat. If you keep in mind that this is NOT a Transformers movie, you'll have a great time.

A three out of five!
