DVD Review - Tomb Raider [2018]

She looks really nice doesn't she?! Too bad the movie doesn't!
Lara Croft,

For anyone into videogames, this name resonates with a powerful, strong, fierce, english archeologist explorer badass. This also resonated with Angelina Jolie for two movies. Sure, they weren't Academy Award material but, for most fans, they did what was required. But then someone thought "You know what? Let's reboot something that no one asked for!" and so they did!

But I really wish they didn't!

Yes, I understand the original videogame had a recent reboot also and this was a change to also introduce a new Lara, a new hero and a new universe. But, same as the videogame... It really didn't need it!

Tomb Raider (2018) introduces to a much more fragile, uninteresting, almost spoiled like girl, that has no interest whatsoever, either in archeology or finding treasure. She's just following on her dad tremendous heritage that - somehow - leads her to an island full of guys with guns.

But don't be afraid cause this city lifelike girl is an average martial arts fan and knows how to use a bow and arrow (somewhat), so what she will do is... we'll you get the picture!

I personally hated this film! I didn't hated that they've tried to reinvent Tomb Raider and I didn't hate the new actress. I hated that this has nothing to do whatsoever with the original Tom Raider universe or it's lore. That, and a script that might work on a videogame - go here, talk to this person, action - but never as a solid piece of film.

I also personally hope they would stop here but, Hollywood being Hollywood, I'm pretty sure we won't see the last of Lara yet!

A two out of five.
