Movie Review - Annihilation

Looking at this poster would think this is the next Alien movie. Sadly, you'd be mistaken!
Here's the thing...

I'm not a mystery drama horror kind of guy. I am however, a X-Files (1993) science investigation kind of guy. Same as in Arrival (2016), this movie has a great premise and - would this have been a series - it would probably be a very good one... But this is actually a movie!

First of all, I don't like Oscar Isaac as an actor. He's not interesting enough, he's not build enough, he's not handsome enough and he doesn't have enough charisma to lead any role. Sure, he can make a great inferiority complexed villain but that's it! Seeing him here as a soldier/husband?! No.

As to balance it off, we have astonishing Natalie Portman who, of course, can play almost anything or anyone. She's the one that takes us on this amazing wonderful journey and does it superbly.

The movie is an interesting piece of film and leaves us raising questions long after we finished seeing it, which - in a way - makes the movie work. However, the final of the movie kinda kills the entire journey (at least for me) and I was expecting maybe a better or more solid conclusion to the whole problematic.

Does it make it a bad experience? Not really. Just not the most enjoyable it could of been. But, to be honest, if you are also into the whole science/man dilema this is something you cannot miss.

A complexed three out of five.
