News - Expectations for E3 2018
Hello everyone,
E3 is still a month away but I wanted to share the hype I between some of the upcoming games that are going to be announced this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo.
Destiny 2
I'll have to admit that this is one of my most awaited news at E3. As we all know Destiny 2 has lost most of it's players thanks to a disastrous launch and DLC management by Bungie. Some may say the game will never rise again but I'm curious to see if they've actually listen to the community and are serious enough to maybe introduce something new for this event regarding the next expansion, coming this fall. Will they continue to a most expected Taken King 2 or will they try something absolutely new and "shock and aw" disbelieving fans and media? I'm not putting my chips on that but if Bungie doesn't do something now and get the community back... they stand to lose all their fans for good!
I put this in number two cause after the Destiny 2 disaster, Electronic Arts seems to be keen on being the king of disasters and - after de Star Wars Battlefront 2 pay-to-win catastrophe - a lot of gamers are waiting to see what will they announce for Anthem. The game was already pushed back to deal with this backlash (even if EA claims it was for other reasons) and we'll have to wait till April 2019 to see an actual finished release. Now, do I think this game will prove everyone wrong? Not really. Even Monster Hunter, Warframe - and Destiny one for hat matter - now acclaimed games by fans and the community alike, had a very rough start. Even if Anthem doesn't feature a ton of micro-transactions (which it most definitely will) it'll still be "a rushed to release within the fiscal year game" so, even if it's new and exciting, I fear it won't be perfect.
Of the MMO Looter Shooter franchises I'm writing about, the only one who's made an increase in favor towards players was Tom Clancy's The Division. The game is now in a good place with most people and gamers satisfied with it. Satisfied yes, but not thrilled! Everyone seems a bit lost about the future direction of the game. Open world? Mission oriented? Team Raids or Battle Royal? The fans have no particular favorite and, because they know the original game was flawed in many ways, most are open to new things. But just how new this will be... No one knows for now.
If you've ever played The Witcher, you know that CD Project Red is one hell of a game studio and they're about to announce their new IP Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 this year. If they make it anything like a Geralt of Rivia cyberpunk action vision, we're in for a hell of a ride!
